Superman
James Gunn does not miss. This version of superman is a delightful representation of the good in the world. Once again, James Gunn hits it out of the park with a superhero adaptation bringing a humorous yet sentimental approach to telling the story of Superman. While previous versions of Superman have strayed away from his roots as an optimist who embodies hope for a darker tone Gunn returns to superman’s roots (As displayed by his comic inspired suit). I admire the decision to not retell Superman’s origin story as it’s a tale which everyone knows well and doesn’t need to be reiterated again, and the inclusion and dynamic between Clark and his parents was a joy to watch and the twist surrounding his kryptonian parents was a bold one yet i feel it worked to strengthen not only the story but Clark’s relationship with his parents in Kansas as well. And Superman’s vulnerability throughout the movie was a great strength in my opinion, while others may view it as him being “weak” i feel as though the challenges he goes through in the film make the ending feel well deserved and give the character of Superman nuance rather than having him be a one dimensional indestructible being. Overall, the movie showcases a different outlook on the story of Superman from past versions but Gunn nails it in my opinion returning Superman to his roots as a symbol of hope. (i know there was a lot more i could mention but that’s my main takeaway. Also anyone calling this move “woke”is genuinely stupid) Sorry this review may suck i’m new to this…
