Monster
I love that Japanese movies convey such powerful feelings, mostly happiness or sometimes the opposite, sadness and sometimes the way the story is told has a lot of influence on how it can impact you, this movie is no exception.
Not knowing anything when I started watching it, I was intrigued to know what was really going on with the boy, if the teacher was the bad guy, if it was the principal all this time or if it was something bigger, but the answer couldn't be simpler.
Sometimes you have to let children be children, they know what they want and we must protect them, not let society tell them what is right and what is not in social matters that are sometimes more ideologies than realities.
This movie is beautiful, and while I was watching it in the third act I couldn't help but smile at the feeling of happiness that filled me from seeing two innocent kids live their lives without adults telling them what to do or who to be.
The truth is that I thought a lot about Close at the end and how everything that the director of that film lacked was something that this film simply puts in its place in a much more organic and less obvious way, especially at the beginning..
It's a real gem. I enjoyed it.
And in the end, who are the monsters? Children who just enjoy their lives or the society that judges them?
