lol it was funny when everyone thought jordan peele directed this. entertaining movie that’s not necessarily bad but felt extremely in between ideas without fully committing to one. not terrible but should’ve been more realistic and less corny at times. 4/10

i liked it while this is nowhere near the top of the spectrum for me as far as lynch goes but it’s still really good. i don’t like how little time we have with the main character before the switch and i don’t feel like i understand his mindset around certain things before we as the viewer don’t see him for the next 90 or so minutes. i started to understand the film more as it went on but i never felt like it reached a climax as it should have. i liked the idea and how it connects to the oj simpson case but compared to his other films it seems to fall short in effectiveness and originality.  Don’t get me wrong i did really enjoy this i just simply wasn’t as engrossed as i was in blue velvet or mulholland. still solid and super super creepy 8/10

i was going to give a 4.5 star rating but sitting with this film changed my mind. I love david lynch so much i feel like a film bro now. This movie, is one of my favorites of all time and a true surrealist masterpiece on the same level as mulholland drive. Everything from the camera work, soundtrack, and acting are perfectly imperfect to provide a perfect, terrifying mood and a captivating story. The film starts with an explanation of itself in the first minute or two. it is so unsettling and confusing especially at first. the main character makes a dumb decision by picking up the ear, but we don’t judge him for it as what we’ve already seen is considerably more bizarre. that gives the first scene more purpose. genius. i don’t really want to give a synopsis of the film so ill just give a few thoughts. they probably aren’t unique but i haven’t checked too much so who knows. while the first scene is already comprehended as a brief summary of the film as a whole, i feel like the main character going in the closet and looking out is as well. the whole time the movie is going, in a way, we are just like him, watching a bizarre and evil underbelly take place. we are somewhere we shouldn’t be. i really love the pimp/dragqueen/suave man/lipsync scene. i got chills watching it. YOU ARE JUST SO SUAVE😂😂. i love the humor in lynch films it’s hilarious. but seriously th guy in the back holding a snake, the perfect impeccable lip syncing, and the eerie mood are perfect. i love how the only time the antagonist seems calm is when he’s listening to these old songs. he likely has gone through so much trauma and anguish and embarrassment that the only time he feels at one with himself is when one of a few things occurs. 1) he is drugged by the nitrous. 2) he abuses his “lover” or 3) he hears a song from his past. this shows that he is not innately evil, but it is a result of inner demons that he has been unable to get rid of.  overall this is one of my favorite movies and one of the most memorable films i’ve ever seen. while it’s not as perfect to me as a mulholland drive or a there will be blood, the way this movie makes the viewer feel is unmatched and will be a benchmark in surrealist media forever. i get the hype now. 10/10

despite my lack of nolan films watched, i’m slowly becoming a hater. i mean this movie was alright i guess but other than a big budget and good effects and utilizing one of the greatest stories ever written, what else is there to like. i liked almost all of odysseus’s journey minus the average looking middle aged white woman witch and how thy were always pussying out and running back to their boat😭😭😭. these supposed badass warriors could fight shit they were always just running away that annoyed me. tom holland is a bitch. he was so lame and i didn’t even want him to be king i wanted odysseus to be king but wtv. the whole movie i was like, okay MAYBE the final fight scene will be awesome and this long wait will be worth it but NO, THAT MIGHTVE BEEN THE LAMEST FINAL FIGHT SCENE IVE EVR SEEN. like this dude was cool fighting off the first TWO guys, an after that im like “alright i get it this dude can fight 2 billion people let’s hurry it up”, AND THEN HE FINALLY GETS TO THE SUITOR AND HES LAME AS FUCK😂😂😭 he literally was almost as much of a bitch as tom holland😭 also i do need to add that it was a jump scare every time zendaya was on my screen. i didn’t have THAT many issues with the casting except for that witch but the dialogue was god awful. “I JUST WANT DAD BACK” sayin ahh😂😂 “COME IN GUYS, THE SHIPS THAT WAY” ahh😂😂😂 that shit was so corny. yeah but the acting had much to be desired idk i was very underwhelmed. anyways im done writing about this movie go watch it i guess but this will be the most overrated movie of the year except maybe obsession they’re pretty close. not saying its bad but based on all the hype and alleged 10 years put into this film i had much higher expectations. hopefully mr holland can redeem himself in dune 3.
