It had some interesting ideas that I appreciated trying to unpack afterwards, and it probably warrants a rewatch to check the conclusions I reached. The animation was great, of course, and I thought really effectively showed the impact of destructive technology on a more visceral level. But, I felt a lot of the basic story elements were underdeveloped -- characters, relationships (e.g., the early Tetsuo/Kaneda relationship), plot points that are rushed or come out of nowhere -- so that the narrative as a whole didn't really land.

yeah that’s more or less what I remember thinking from the last time. it’s kinda flying on vibes rather than a cohesive story or message. but I still wanna rewatch given it’s been like 10 years for me
