A Complete Unknown
a very weird mixture of emotions arised when watching this. i couldn’t help thinking about my dad which is probably why i was hesitant to watch. dylans music has always been an enduring force in my life. pls skip if u don’t wanna read my dump❤️
it wasn’t just the music or the era or even the myth of bob dylan that stirred something in me. it was the quiet moments in between. the way a person can seem both completely present and somewhere far away at the same time. dylan on screen felt like that: thoughtful, stubborn, hard to read, but carrying something deep that words never quite managed to hold. there were these small moments with my dad when i was younger. listening to queen, bowie, johnny cash in his shed. bringing me to the dentist and having to dance for me the entire appointment so i would stop crying. assembling various pieces of furniture entirely wrong. these moments hold more weight to me than any conversations could have. never much for words anyway.
there’s always more going on beneath the surface. i will probably never understand him. and that’s okay. he was once a young restless man too trying to make sense of the world.
WEIRD FEELINGS. I FEEL WEIRD. CURSE YOU RICHARD RUSHTON!!!
