First off, who the fuck gives directions like that?? I first watched this at twelve and eleven years later it still holds up for me. The tree rpe scene does throw me more now even though the lead up is shot so well. It's a little unnecessarily gratuitous, but Raimi has said he regrets including it in the film so; Sam Raimi did face obscenity* charges to bring us this this gore filled trip to Tennessee. The deadites are still nightmare fuel especially Sheryl who mocks Ash from the cellar. For gods sake what happened to her eyes!Raimis directorial eye really shines in his debut with an affinity for long tracking shots, tight push ins, and lighting! Loved the shot of the lightbulb filling with blood and the blood covered film lens. Deadite Shelly get hacked to pieces is the reason I love practical effects! Thank you Tom Sullivan! Bruce Campbell as Ash is a total himbo.
