A Clockwork Orange
A Bit of the old ULTRA VIOLENCE
I still feel weird recommending this to friends. It is a cruel exposition of the reality behind reformity in just a chaotic world. Alex’s misdoings equate him to disposable, and, even after his treatment, he is still tortured by his past. Begs the question of whether or not Alex is the same person as before, and therefore deserving of the punishment. Him detesting his former self leads to the viewer sympathetic to his negative treatment thereafter.
I’ve always felt is was a very poignant film in the mentioned regard, and it takes this so far by really seeing if the viewer is still able to sympathize with the protagonist even after witnessing, in a vulgar way, the atrocities he has committed.
Kubrick classic.
