Don’t Peek
This movie wasn't that bad and I may feel that way because I'm a devoted found footage fanatic but I also think, with all things considered it was really good. Finding out through Kyles reddit AMA that it was filmed primarily on an iphone, which is something I find incredible.
I, on the contrast to some other reviews actually loved both of the main influencers performances. Paris was very much so hateable, and I found myself not only feeling bad for Rebecca but also somewhat growing fond of her. They remind me of the 2021-2023 true crime Youtubers, like two side of the same coin. Paris reminds me of those ones who would hide something brutal about the case behind a paywall, while Rebecca seemed at least like she wanted to help in one way or another. I also love Mr. Peeks tapes, the costume was simple and I think it felt more real than a lot of others I've seen. Also, LOVE the ghosts. Sorry I'm a sucker for paranormal horror and this movie genuinely did make me jump a bit in my seat. There are obviously some of the basic horror "There's no way this would actually happen" type thing, like I don't understand how a person couldn't see someone else stealing their keys..basically right in front of them. And I do second the criticism that sometimes the VHS effect goes overboard; but all in all it was a good film and one of the best from the found footage genre that I've seen that've come out in recent years.
