Prisoners
There’s so much I can say about this movie. I genuinely think from start to finish it is perfect and doesn’t manage to skip or trip on itself. If there is a best place to start it would be the story which snatches your attention from the minute everything is set in place by the time in which you’re hooked, you’ve already gotten a taste of what the dynamics are like which makes the spiral so incredible and devastating to watch.
In terms of thrillers, I think this was my first one which made me realise how much I enjoy thrillers. Rewatching it again just brings back a lot of memories whilst also made me spot out things which I missed in my previous experiences. Small hints and innuendos made on purpose whether it was through dialogue or cinematography.
Visually, this movie looks like real life to me. It’s the way how certain scenes are shot with such difference. Take for instance, the interrogation room which is lit up so bright to create this confrontational atmosphere that if watched in a dark room can really enhance and describe the mood of a scene without using any sort of dialogue.
Denis crafted something magical with this one as all the experts around him understood the concept and brought it to life to create one incredible masterpiece.
