Legitimately one of the most violent bloody action movies I’ve ever seen, looses a bit of steam in the 2nd half. Could have been like 10-15 mins shorter but still 100% worth watching for anyone into action. Joe Taslim is raw as fuck, wish there was a bit more iko uwais but seeing him and Joe go blow for blow is extremely satisfying

Easily one of the best action films of the decade, my torrent went out right at the last 20 mins big final showdown and I just bought it for $25 on Amazon, worth it.

Not sure to give this a 3.5 or a 4. The first half I was 100% on board, it’s tense engaging and legitimately darkly funny. The final act did drag a bit, I was overall mostly satisfied with the ending but the last 20-30 mins were noticeably less engaging for me although not bad. Every performance is solid to very good, while not bills best work; he remains a very solid leading man who’s anger is understandable. And Colman Domingo is very charismatic with a super dope silky voice, for sure a highlight. Note that similar to dog day afternoon, another 70s set true story hostage film (also had pachino) I know little to nothing of the true story and didn’t know it was based on a true story until halfway through. The filmmaking is solid, I dig the use of film grain despite being shot digital, it didn’t look exactly like a film shot in the 70s but considering it’s a retelling of a true story I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. Color grading was decent as well, looking like a real movie unlike a lot of larger budget streaming flicks of the last decade. The needle drops felt mostly appropriate in setting tone and atmosphere aside from “the revolution will not be televised” as someone said, not even trying to be some woke asshole but it is a bit goofy to put a song that’s very explicitly about black peoples struggles after a story of a white guy holding a rich dude hostage (not a major ding but worth mentioning). Overall a very solid well made and mostly engaging thriller with dark comedic elements made on a refreshingly reasonable budget of about 13 million, one I’m not rushing to rewatch but would be open to to see if my opinion changes for the better or worse
