After Life
“fifty years later, i’ve learned i was a part of someone else’s happiness.”
a beautiful ode to mundanity, filmmaking and life itself. one that had me contemplating its central question alongside the characters.
if you could take just one memory into the after life, which would it be?
obviously hard, near impossible to answer, at least not without some serious thought. and that therein lies the beauty of such a question, you’re forced to recount the many moments throughout your life, mundane as they may be, you meticulously seek out whatever beauty you can in search of that perfect scene: a particular sound, the weather, complete silence. memory isn’t objective, in a memory, any moment can become special, as is the case with film, normalcy can be romanticised through a camera lens, and in the case of this movie, made as beautiful as you remember by staying true to life, no camera tricks or fancy audio work, just a moment in time frozen on film.
this is definitely one of my favourite movies.
