this is the crossroad between *real steel* and *fight club* and thats fucking beautiful man the characters were arguably the best part about this movie, take whatever mid to late 2000s show and pluck out the best stereotypes and put them in this movie : - bubbly chick everyone wants? SCORE! - hotheaded guy who wants to do good? CHECK! - chatty dweeby best friend w/ a camera? YES! - sadistic big bad who is arguably cool as hell? DING! the soundtrack was fucking immaculate, no notes, the acting was decent (i have a grudge against blake lively idk why cant get myself to like her but she was alright in this), and honestly the aesthetics were all super enjoyable overall. however, i will say the whole "guys fight over girl" trope in 2000s movies - this one being *literal, *is so tiring because this female character is nothing outside of the orbit of these two men and how BORING is that. i think the funniest thing abt this movie is that ryan made jake fight in jeans. low rise jeans, in fact, and that v-line was fucking insane. best part of this movie.

shoutout roman anthony of the boston red sox for never shutting up about this movie which singlehandedly influenced me to watch it "do you want to watch a man lie and emotionally manipulate a woman for like an hour and a half?" and to that i say, ykw sure i have nothing better to do with my time and by no means is this a bad movie! i did enjoy watching it a lot but also i am nothing if not my fathers daughter and this is inherently a movie my dad would have put on circa 2016 during movie night and im not mad about it because my tastes really havent changed much, evidently considering my top 4 on this app. but honestly it was pretty good! i always enjoy a ben affleck movie, don't think this is his best work directorially or acting wise but still a solid movie nonetheless. i also am a sucker for the sports references in this movie, the merchandise all the characters wear; boston red sox, boston bruins, boston celtics, driving past td garden, name dropping fenway park, its a really cool touch! would definitely watch again! thank you, roman anthony!

i thought people were joking when they said this was peak. THEY WERE NOT. THIS SHIT WAS GENUINELY PEAK.

two things; 1. damn maybe i would sleep with shakespeare if he looked like paul mescal 2. what a beautifully phenomenal film both emotionally but visually, what a captivating experience as an entirety. it's astonishing how phenomenal this movie is it genuinely sickens me, how grief will ever be a scar on existence GODDDD THIS MOVIE SICKENS ME !!!!!!
