Mary and Max
Watched this a month ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. If only more movies had this much soul and deep appreciation for unusual but genuine friendship — oh yeah and a life’s supply of chocolate. Mary and Max is a beautiful reminder to the importance of opening your heart and mind to all people no matter how seemingly different from yourself and the power of a connection that society would deem as “strange” or even unsettling. But what does society know? Friendships can teach a person a great deal, but only if a person is open to change and influences that are especially different from ones own. The more unusual — like letter coordinates between a young aussie and a old aspy new yorker — the better. A world lived within ones assumed normalcies and boundaries is a life wasted. Only way to know the impact a person’s worldview and friendship is to leave assumptions and judgment at the mofo door. It’s always important to remember to step outside of oneself every once in a while and explore other perspectives and ways of self expression.
These little clay people moved me more than any actor’s performance — and that’s saying something. Also 10/10 soundtrack still listen to Perpetuum Mobile and Pink Martini’s Que Sera Sera on the reg.
