jantar mantar protest respect button

i watched this with my mother on sunday and the more i sat with it the more i felt like slb completely missed the point. i don't think you honour women by romanticising the system that has exploited them for centuries. after talking to my friends and reading more about sex work i couldn't stop thinking about the stories behind it. trafficking, child sexual abuse, rape, poverty, manipulation, girls being sold before they even understand what's happening to them. i know not every person's story is the same but i couldn't watch this and see empowerment the way the movie wanted me to. maybe i'm not smart enough yet to talk about this the way it deserves to be talked about but i know enough to say that survival isn't the same thing as freedom and a choice made with no real options doesn't feel like much of a choice at all. i have nothing but love and respect for every woman who has had to survive this and i hope one day they all have enough safety and opportunities that nobody ever has to choose between their body and their survival. mummy ne kaha in another life they'll be the happiest and no man will be there. i don't think i'll ever forget that line☹️
