*"You can do anything. Once you know what it is. We can live without money, without people. We can live without position. We're not fools. We're both strong. There'd be some place we could go."* one of the main things i adore about this film is the time it was released. it is a queer romance period drama that came to cinemas in 1987, around the same time of the HIV/AIDS epidemic which was a bold statement that fortunately (from what i know) received pretty positive feedback. the cinematography in this movie was excellent, capturing such breathtaking scenery and atmosphere of england with beautiful historical details. the performance from each and every actor was outstanding. they all did such an incredible portrayal of their role, and you could tell that the actors deeply understood their characters. the dialogue was eloquent and and accurate. it was a fantastic representation of how people would speak in the 1900s, and i enjoyed being able to see the differences on how individuals used different terminology depending on class and status. it was a pleasure to learn various new words from their speech. the plot is so engaging and refreshingly real. although i have to say, the ending was somewhat not to my taste. as i did highly appreciate maurice and alec having a happy ending, i found that i did not enjoy how clive was in what seemed to be a platonic marriage to maintain his social status. as much as it was realistic, i would’ve much rather relished in the film if clive would have accepted his homosexuality. however, the ending was very realistic and accurate. i would definitely recommend this movie, happy pride month <3

*“We accept the love we think we deserve.”* exceptional movie, such a wonderful exploration of different themes and characters. something i really enjoyed about this movie is the way they handled charlie’s mental health and his trauma from being sa’d. it is real and raw and shows how detrimental sa can be and how it can follow you up later on in life. there was also a wonderful display in charlie from the trauma of his best friends death, showing his isolation, “blackouts” and avoidance. (some may also overlap with his sa trauma, but i’m not 100% certain) the performance really was phenomenal, and gave almost every actor a great opportunity to play a complex role. each actor portrayed their character in such a unique and engaging way. the dialogue was also pretty decent in my opinion, and i really don’t have much to say on it. the soundtrack was incredible!! i loved, ***“Come on Eileen” **by Dexys Midnight Runners *and ***“Heroes” **by David Bowie. *each song that was in the film was in a scene that matched up perfectly. i have not read the book so i am not aware on how accurate the adaptation is, but nonetheless i believe the movie was excellent. i would definitely recommend! such an lovely film and it really was a pleasure to watch.

*“I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12.”* such a great movie! i really loved the plot and although the ending was upsetting, i found it almost realistic how there was a poor outcome for one of the characters, considering life does not always have happy endings for some people. i always enjoy movies slightly more that have extra realism and depth, like one of my favourites, atonement, which also shows that life will have its negatives aswell. i do know that stand by me was originally a novella called the body (by stephen king) and all of chris’s friends died somewhat young, but i think the movies ending was great. the quote stated above the paragraph was one of my favourite quotes of the movie (alongside many other people’s😭) but i suppose that it can be absolutely true and my friends that i had when i was younger will always hold a place in my heart. although i do believe the acting in the movie was phenomenal, the only flaw i have to state is how the boys who were around 12 years old had dialogue that was similar to an adults. but then again, the movie was created over 20 years ago. interesting movie and would definitely recommend <33

great movie! casting was very good, and every single actor did an amazing job. definitely an interesting plot and so so funny, but i doubt i would ever rewatch it so i have to put a lower rating ☹️☹️
