i love stories about unlikable, self-centered yet endearing young women. we’ve all felt like lisa at one point, like the whole world is screaming at us and revolving around us at the same time. anna paquin is an underrated actress. the score is haunting. pacing is pretty good despite being a 2.5 hr film. also, this entire cast is surprisingly stacked asf for the type of movie it is. i was gagged when my favorite lightskin, michael early, popped up.

all this glitz and glamour and i still feel like they didn’t really capture how big michael really was. jaafar jackson might be simultaneously the best and worst possible casting choice. he dances, sings, and emotes just like michael, but we’ll never actually get a fully authentic portrayal of who the man really was as long as his family is involved. they made joe jackson into this cartoonishly evil, mustache-twirling villain. like duh, we know he’s an abusive, terrible person but there’s like zero complexity to who he is. he was obv a genius, which is how he created the Jacksons and why MJ forgave him later in life. but the movie never shows that. every scene is basically him just going “muah ha ha.” i’m not justifying or glorifying what he did, but if they’re going to put so much focus on his character, they might as well make him interesting… all the other Jackson siblings are basically just NPCs in this anyway. it’s like none of the actors except jaafar jackson were given anything rlly good to work with. the *don’t stop til you get enough* transition was fire tho 😼

bring back typewriters. they make writing seem so much more exciting!

i hate when they give julia roberts a silk press. let her curls fly free!
