Sing Sing
Maybe I'm just a theater kid and a big art nerd, but this film kind of broke me into millions of pieces. It genuinely is really what I needed to hear in my life right now.
I heard good things about this film for a long time, but this went absolutely beyond my expectations and hit me right in the heart. It captivated me right from the moment the film started with the play right to the end, with its beautiful cinematography, score, and performances. Colman Domingo dominated every single scene he's in; it's a crime that he is not absolutely dominating the current awards season and a crime that this film is not even considered for the Best Picture nomination. This is genuinely one of my favorite films of this year.
The film already made me cry with its beautiful dialogue when I was watching it, but when the credits roll in and I see the prisoners "playing as self," I cry even more.
Art liberates us, and makes us human again. Despite being caged inside a prison, we as humans find our purpose and ourselves again through art.
"When we born, we cry. Because we're born to a stage of fools."
