Obsession
by far one of the best horror films in recent years.
everyone saying Bear is the victim genuinely missed the entire point. Nikki was. she was assaulted and exploited while trapped inside her own body, unable to do anything because she was possessed. Bear knew the woman he was with wasn’t Nikki, and he continued anyway. even by the end he refuses to take accountability. the fact that Bear literally got exactly what he wished for is the whole point of the film. i loved how it explored fragile masculinity and what happens when a man can’t cope with rejection or being told no.
the sexual assault allegory was honestly heartbreaking, and i really appreciated how carefully the film handled it. the horror isn’t the possession itself, it’s the entitlement.
also can we talk about how INSANE the craft is??? the cinematography, and sound work were amazing, and those jump scares… i genuinely never get scared watching horror films but this one got me GOOD.
