Been 3 months since I completed the season 2 of twin peaks and can't believe I didn't watch this until now. For me this is easily the best work of lynch, it contains his high surreal stuff which he is known for and adds the twin peaks magic on it. The reason that I believe this is his best work is that sometimes in his films, the mystery supersedes the emotional moments. This is not the case in this film, this is very emotional and hard hitting, his darkest film too. Sheryl lee delivers a generational performance, can't believe she didn't get any offers for top films. Ray wise is also equally good in his role. Can't really explain this cinematic experience in words. Can write paragraphs about this but I am too devastated after the ending. I had a similar feeling when I watched end of evangelion where I couldn't choose which one was better the **series or the film. **This just made me more eager to watch the return and I am sure I will like it even more.

Some films entertain you and some films make you think. This comes under the second category. A man who stops dealing with society because he doesn't see any use or meaning in it. This connects with me because I too want to just fuck off somewhere and not deal with anyone or anything because it's too exhausting and suffocating sometimes. This film perfectly expresses that feeling. Our lives are repetitive, where things might change but not the pattern. Moments that we dread feel like a lifetime but the joyful moments are limited and float by faster than you can experience them. A very well made film, really liked the editing.

Early bergman but still outstanding. Summer with Monika is about two teenagers who are fed up with society and real life. They both quit their jobs and go away. They are in love with each other and Monika is pregnant. Their love story is perfect uptill here. After things get serious and responsibilities start piling on them, they start drifting apart. Change is sudden and Monika can't handle it. This film is mainly about how youthful ambition and freedom can often get sidelined when you have actual responsibilities. Everyone wants to go away and spend time in an island or a moubtain but is it feasible for people living on paycheck to paycheck, the answer would be NO. The timeless thing about the film is that this template is used even now. Harriet andersson is charismatic and amazing in this role. Lars ekborg also does a wonderful job alongside her. You can't look at his face and do not feel pity for him.

Aesthetically mesmerizing and visually striking. Just learned that this film is underrated when it comes to films from french new wave and guy gilles is not talked about in the same way compared to his contemporaries. Though I appreciate the influence and creativity those films had, I could care less about what's happening in the film and to the characters. I have only watched few films of that movement but this is one of my faves because this takes all the good elements from the French new wave and makes it interesting. I like when the dialogue in the film is poetic and the monologues are deeply philosophical, it makes me think about the film more.
