Dune: Part Two
Wow this movie was so good!
The cinematography was so good and noticeable right off the bat. Lots of shots I wanted to add to my list in the theater.
Stihlgap riding past Paul’s silhouette
Paul walking through a huge crowd of people via aerial view
Peaking behind rocks as the beginning
Peaking behind sand horizon at the beginning
The black sun monochrome fight
The mentor calling out the guy who plays Drax (can’t remember his name lol) and coming up the stairs
Paul’s cape flowing as he watches his explosion
Zendaya laughing and running past Paul as the helicopter falls
Near the end when everyone kneels except Zendaya, the bride, and the mother.
The final fight at sunset
Ending image of Zendaya angry
Light thingy shining the tunnel of the arsenals.
There were lots of allusions to Christianity in this, some which made it look kind of bad at some points, like the mom converting people based on who was the weakest. Hard to tell it’s take on it.
Theme: Leading requires sacrifice. Believe in your calling.
I loved Stilghar’s amazement at Paul always saying “as it is written” and even how humble he is and the fact that he wanted a mouses’ name as his secret name. Also it was always like “either you do this successfully or you die.” Also funny with the gin (desert spirits) talk.
It was cool when Paul did not give in to the tradition to take Stilgar’s life just to have a say in the leadership position when they said it’s the only way and he responded “I am the way.” Hard to tell apart his cockiness for his confidence at times.
Paul riding the grandfather worm was an intense scene, really cool.
Mother did a really good job acting, and the baby sister talking in the womb concept was interesting, as well as the shots of the baby growing inside and her in the future. She also did a good job beating that guy up with a rock at the beginning.
Drax (still don’t know his name) made so so so many stupid leadership decisions it made sense that he had to be replaced. His brother or cousin or whatever was a freaky guy though sometimes. So much unnecessary killing just if you spoke up as a Harkonen I would have just stayed quiet.
So shocked with Paul’s offer at the end, but he’s seen the future so he knows what he needs to do.
Zendaya was a very likable character that stood out, she liked Paul but also stood up for what she believed in even it was against Paul. Very kind too and good at fighting.
Weird stuff:
You can choose your baby’s gender as a benejarian?
Baby grew so fast.
Water of life was just baby worm pee.
Asian guy came back from the dead in the first movie just to be killed off again super fast. He was really good at fighting though for being at such a disadvantage.
The mother is the daughter of the baron.
Men can’t usually survive the water of life.
Paul always has visions of Jamis being his mentor when really all he ever wanted to do is kill Paul.
Girl gives guy pain test and then they have sex apparently right after.
Paul didn’t use the Voice if he didn’t have to ever which I thought was cool. Also I liked that he just wanted to be a Fremen. And the whole thing where he knew Arrakis was originally called Dune was an “ohhhhh!” Moment for me. Him telling the guy all about his past really had a women at the well with Jesus feel.
Lots of edge of seat moments with fight scenes and just thinking people are going to die.
