Magellan
most beautiful film ive watched in 2025 like absolutely gobsmacked by how gorgeous this looks especially since i got to watch it in the cinema. so many of the shots could be displayed somewhere. how he creates these painterly scenes repeatedly like every scene was done with so much intention...
i will get back to this tomorrow when i have the brainpower but there's something so striking with how diaz chose to portray first contact and the eventual conflict. no big cinematic battles or even just plain hot-blooded violence. just cuts to aftermath of burned down houses, crying/celebrating, and corpses scattered and swept away at the shoreline.
and that ending... jesus! there's something to be said about how it mirrors the first few minutes of the movie too...
my ass stuck in that chair like i was a 7 year old watching brainrot content on reels!!!
