The Killer
guys. when are we ever gonna find a world-renowned killer-for-hire that uses the word normies and listens to the smiths to hype him up.
the killer is outright hilarious. from his "in-depth and deep" monologue about the job that leads to his first miss, his miscalculation of the amount of time a guy with three nails embedded into his chest can last to his inability to even follow his own rules of "don't improvise, stick to the plan." this film made me chuckle and blow out raspberries at the screen. perhaps it's the complete bafflement that i have when the sigma, literally me, killer-for-hire is now played for laughs. that he sleeps in his car, create self-serving monologues in his head, and has a yoga playlist that's also filled with the smith's songs.
the color in this film is gorgeous as well as the framing of the shots. definitely eye-candy to me and something ill be lifting stills from in the future. the direction is typical fincher: perfect, sleek, and stylized.
fassbender does a great job of embodying a self-serious nervous wreck all the while performing swift and limber movements. swinton has one of my favorite monologues. in the little time that she had, she portrayed the cunning and danger that her character is supposed to emanate. a true, cold-blooded assassin.
chapter transitions are a hot topic but i personally loved them, especially with their accompanying kinetic typography. sick opening credit sequence too (sad that we didn't see more sophisticated assassinations but the gratuitous violence is pretty good)
did not expect to enjoy this film but maybe I am just a fincher head after all!
