Avengers: Infinity War
[ 𝗟𝗢𝗪 • 9/10 ] It’s hard to even begin reviewing this movie, there are so many characters, storylines, and emotions packed into one film. It grabs your attention immediately, picking up right after Thor: Ragnarok and launching into a fast-paced, intense opening. The massacre of the Asgardians, Hulk’s quick defeat, and the deaths of Heimdall and Loki all establish Thanos as an unstoppable and terrifying force. (I know I’m late watching this but I really hope Loki isn’t actually dead - though I guess his show says otherwise.)
Thanos is perfectly brought to life through Josh Brolin’s voice acting and the character design. His motivation, eradicating half of all life to preserve resources, is chilling and makes him one of the MCU’s most iconic villains. His philosophical dialogue and cold conviction give him unexpected depth. There are so many heartbreaking moments. Gamora asking Star-Lord to kill her, only to be sacrificed by Thanos anyway, adds layers to both her character and Thanos’ twisted sense of love. Vision asking Wanda to destroy the Mind Stone, only for Thanos to reverse time and kill him himself, was brutal. Peter Parker’s final words hit especially hard. Bucky’s quiet “Steve…” stuck with me.
I loved seeing the different hero groupings, the balance of action and humour, and how each character’s powers were showcased - both individually and in team-ups. The Wakanda battle, the forging of Stormbreaker, and the fight on Titan were all great ways to split up the narrative. There’s so much more I could say. This movie is truly incredible. The Russo Brothers delivered one of the best films in the MCU. I just hope people watch the previous movies before judging this one, it makes the whole experience so much more rewarding. I can only imagine how amazing it must’ve been seeing this for the first time in cinemas.
