the screenwriting was a bit lacklustre at times when it wasn’t centred on Kara and overall the soundtrack was wow… there were definitely moments where I cringed and went ooh I know about ten different songs they could’ve used… I mean apart from that it does centre on Kara and get into her background and who she is and why she is who she is and who she turns out to be and it makes her *human* even if unconventionally compared to superman like I really enjoyed that it wasn’t sunshine and rainbows and she was vulnerable and made mistakes and everything, is this overall my top film of the year? No. Do I think this will be a good superhero film for girls growing up now though and in the soon future? Unequivocally fucking yes (I wish I had this as a kid). It’s not perfect but it’s a step in the right direction, yes it could’ve been so much more but I’m just excited to see Kara in more of the DCU from now :)

the money alone they must’ve spent on stunt doubles for this….. tbf I thought I’d hate this but something about Emily blunt is just so magnetising… and Ryan gosling I guess 🙄

I liked it and then it spooked the fuck out of me but that means that it’s good because art is immersive and yeah Edit : okay I’ve processed this enough to write a more sufficient review. I was not expecting it to take the turn that it did and I did ask a few people before if it was more horror or psychological and I was overall told it was more psychological but then that body horror stuff SHOOK me esp with the whole burying alive semantic. Honestly by the end I felt like Owen when he was watching the pink opaque and was just so sucked into it, clever naming by the way like something opaque is thick and full and bold (by my terms of word association anyway) it really just demonstrates another layer of you can’t hide it and try dissolve it like how Owen spits in the blue cotton candy and it fades. It was good at balancing out the representations and at different degrees whilst overall demonstrating the same message that you can’t bury stuff down or else it’ll just crawl its way out again like Maddy/Tara (depending on if you think she’s just a lesbian or non binary and the “that’s not my name” was her hinting at that) we explored her accepting she was a lesbian but also afraid to tell the world and even Owen until she thinks he’s making a move on her and goes without saying but owen/isabel’s storyline is amazingly done. I do think though that the tv breaking in any capacity like from the fire or owen’s head stuck in is a metaphor for a suicide attempt and maddy I theorise is actually dead from the day she ran and her “coming back” is actually just Owen’s hallucinations to try unveil who he actually is, the pink opaque doesn’t actually exist and is just a delusion that Maddy and Owen both believe in until she leaves and Owen tries to keep it alive but ends up obscuring it the more he’s left to create without Maddy’s scaffolding the more he’s accidentally looking into himself. It’ll always be his favourite tv show because it’ll always just be an image on a screen for him and it’ll always just be his imagination. He doesn’t accept that it’s imagination till the end though when he cuts himself open and realises that actually the tv is inside him he is the TV it’s all him, I think that’s all imagination aswell though because who tf carries a little knife like that with them everywhere.. but anyways I’ll write a proper review soon.

“And Bob” yeah thanks mate I really thought you were gonna discard one of the main characters after just introducing him. ANYWAYS This definitely isn’t one of the best MCU films I’ve seen but it’s still good and it’s an interesting and new take on superhero films or just films within the MCU anyway. Trauma and mental health isn’t something that’s scandalous or unheard of within the universe and amongst the characters however this really felt like the first time (in my limited experience anyway) where they fully leaned into the whole “being a superhero isn’t just the fighting and it’s actually also about communication because violence and violence doesn’t make less violence” aspect and you know what it wasn’t as horrible as I thought it would be. Not to say movies around mental health are bad but I thought this movie was going to be cringe and badly written but it wasn’t really. The fight scenes were giving me civil war flashbacks though those were shite BUT I like how specifically yelena has a drastically different fighting style to Natasha like she was fast and more show-off flashy fancy type of fighting but yelena, clearly isn’t so, has a more lazy, we have all the time in the world style. Not to say she’s bad but she’s not going to get in the crouching floor pose if it’s unnecessary. Loved the concept of the rooms and just it was like meeeh and then it hit peak when that happened and it kinda is giving similar vibes to Scott pilgrim defeating the seven evil exes but instead of exes it’s just Bob having a shit life. Also Bucky just helping anyone who has had any semblance or trauma just makes me emotional as FUCK brother
