If I'm very active on Letterboxd it means I'm either on PTO or unemployed

Well holy shit, I didn't expect this to be that good but it's certainly up there as a solid film for 2026, I felt it was a little too long but maybe because I needed to pee throughout but I didn't leave because I felt I needed to see every moment and I'm glad I did, definitely pre ordering the blu ray and gonna get the Lego, huge recommend if you enjoyed The Lego Movie, 2001 a space Odyssey, E.T and the Martian

Now I hate to coin the term "they don't make 'em like they used to" although with Sam Raimi's Spider hypen Man I'm willing to break my own rules, this is a rewatch of course and finally putting my 10 cents on it (Ad said 3000) this is something I remember fondly especially seeing it on its VHS release and it's stuck with me since does that make me impartial? Of course although I can agree there is some some problems i.e CG in places has not aged well or various turns of phrase like "did your husband make that for you?" Although as it was a different time and was socially acceptable in some sense I think we can forgive it, the premise is still there with it's incredible cinematography and story, by no means have I read every single Spider-Man Comic then again what modern Marvel fan has especially with the change to organic web shooting and Norman Osborne donning the iconic Green Ranger suit which brings me to Willem Defoe in a stand out performance in comic book films putting him in the same calibre as Jack Nicholson, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and RDJ, it's a performance that Raimi can really take to similar heights like he did with Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead franchise which of course he cameos as the Announcer in the Wresting segment, Tobey Maguire will always be Spider-Man to me although yes it's because I grow up with that although I've yet to find the perfect embodiment of Peter Parker and Spiderman so well, an ideal world it's a mix of both him and Tom Holland potentially, the film itself once again talking about a time period abandoned by the world granted a major tragic event took place not so long into filming in 2001 and it shows, it's proud identity as an New York centric hero still shines even I as a disgustingly proud Brit feel patriotic when the citizens of New York start disrupting the Goblin's evil doing and it's hard not to, I love everything about the score and it's funny that Danny Elfman has made TWO iconic scores for superheroes now, the film is extremely quotable and encapsules the end of that late 90s optimism and the beginning of a new century, it's once in a generation by my opinion and I'm glad I got a birthday cake that marketed the film, in short if you didn't like this film, I missed that part where that's my problem. Btw the final swing score definitely doesn't sound like the finale of Edward Scissorhands.

Amazing rebound for the Director of The Marvels film, instantly picks up after Spike meets the Jimmys' gang and the deadly trial he has to face to be subjected into their sadistic ways by an incredible performance by Jack O'Connell which I really hope he and Alfie Williams receive many awards for, honestly I feel this is a far stronger film than the previous 28 Years Later which is something to say as it was a good return to the franchise although this feels more intense with the human part which it was missing so if anything I would view this as a more truer sequel granted a mix of the two would be best, Ralph Fiennes truly enjoys his role in all this and it's hard to say anything negative about this as far as I'm concerned, definitely will be rewatched when it hits physical media later on

Saw this on VHS at a very young age (cheers father) and to this day it unsettles me yet I find everything about it oddly comforting, the setting alone is the stuff of legend for good reason, the zombie make up is dated granted although it's iconic in its own right and practical effects wise it doesn't hold back, watching this again recently after getting the Second Sight Collectors edition blu ray release which comes with just incredible artwork along with the 3 distinct cuts of the film which I have watched including the definitive Mall cut found on YouTube, in all honesty I can't tell the difference immediately watching any of the cuts but all of them are enjoyable with a good slice of the 70s and it's approach on social commentary, if there was anything to be fixed it would be giving Fran the ability to handle a 1 on 1 encounter with a brain muncher, I feel if anyone is to critique zombie films in general need to watch this to fully understand it's not the dead who create problems, I love this no matter what and the end credits song never fails to make me smile, when there's no more room in hell, the brainless will walk the earth
