Adolescence

Every day I'm more and more disappointed at the way young people turn out today. I'd always imagined that from Gen Z onwards humans would be more progressive, but sadly it's the opposite, which is why I'm thankful that Adolescence was created. It's very different to the regular court case/trial plot that usually takes place because it focuses on examining how Jamie became the boy troubled enough to commit such a horrific crime, and actually addresses the toxic manosphere and red-pill community. The one-take shooting decision made the series feel more authentic, and a hundred percent more terrifying, because women and families across the UK and the world are going through this. Each episode dealt with a separate facet that shaped Jamie, and the third and fourth ones were especially brutal. I broke down watching Eddie and Manda ask themselves if they were good parents, and how Eddie was devastated that he thought he hadn't broken the cycle of abuse in his family. The entire cast did an excellent job in the series, especially Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper; I had to pause in between scenes because their acting made it feel so real.
You can do everything in your power to raise a boy to be kind and respectful, but school, peers and in this generation, the Internet, can ruin it all so quickly. I have a baby cousin and despite having an older sister and two older female cousins to help him, there's a possibility that he's going to fall down the terrible red-pill pipeline, and considering all the backlash the show and its creators reveived from 'alpha males', it's something I'm frightened to think about.
