Sinners
Wow. I’m pretty much speechless but I’m gonna try and express myself coherently. One of the best films I’ve seen I think. I knew basically nothing about it going in and I’m so glad I didn’t because I was reeling for the whole second act. Michael B. Jordan is a rockstar, obviously, I was completely enthralled from the second he came onto screen. The other two standouts for me were Wunmi Mosaku, and Jack O’Connell. Mosaku partly because she’s was appropriately wary of anything suspicious, but mostly because she’s completely captivating, and had me on board with what felt like a fairly sharp genre shift immediately. Then O’Connell, whose only other major role I’ve seen is Little Fish, so this is a slight switch up. He is completely unhinged, very unnerving, and a joy to watch. Hearing him roar “SAMMIEEEEEE” sent 10000 volts up mind spine, not least because I’m a huge supernatural fan, and it was hard not to feel like that was a nod. This film takes its time and makes the most of every single second to deliver such an incredible sequence of heartwarming, heartbreaking, and heart stopping moments connected into such a rich beautiful tapestry.
Side note I’m gonna be seeing Marty Supreme this week and, having seen the discourse, I fail to see how it’s gonna top this.
