this has gotta be one of the all-time best movie musicals, with all that jazz and cinematography and surprisingly cold dialogue. a little bit of good writing goes a long way when paired with such flavorful, boozy, razzledazzle style and satirical class but all i care about is the seamless weaving of plot advancing scenes with gloriously flashy showtunes. like omg it was so good why don’t more musicals do that nowadays? almost knocked it half a star but richard gere’s unbelievable capital P Performance makes up for renée zellweger’s lousy acting as roxie. truly a man after my own hart; i want him to be my own best friend
