Silence
LIGHT 9.
Whenever I tell people that I'm Catholic, I feel like I have to defend my faith. "Why are you against abortion?" But I'm not. "Biblical stories are scientifically inaccurate!" Perhaps, but that doesn't take away from their sentimental importance. "Your religion was responsible for centuries of war." Times were different back then.
While I was watching this movie, I had a two-hour conversation about religion with my mom. We talked about the persecution of Christians (my mom emphasizes this happened in Korea as well), the invasion of foreign beliefs, the logic behind religious stories, the loyalty that we must show for our faith, and so much more.
This movie is so heartfelt and dense. Underserving absolution. Unconditional faith. God's trials. Empty prayers. Beautiful landscapes. Andrew Garfield. Blind faith. Persistent backlash. Consistent belief.
"Come ahead now. It's alright. Step on me. I understand your pain. I was born into this world to share men's pain. I carried this cross for your pain. Your life is with me now. Step."
