Amazing Grace
So much damn energy.
I'm quick to cry in sad movies. That's usually not an issue for me. However, once in a blue moon, when everything in a movie comes together perfectly for just a second, I'll quietly shed a tear during a scene that's just saturated with emotion of any kind. The last time that happened was watching Estiu 1993. It happened again tonight, amidst Franklin's surreal rendition of Amazing Grace. There's not much higher praise I can give a movie.
The irresistibly charismatic Rev. James Cleveland, the indefatigable Alexander Hamilton, and the absolutely angelic Aretha Franklin, combined with Sydney Pollack's sheer directorial determination, all made this a movie-going I won't be quick to forget.
