BlacKkKlansman
Spike Lee has a very distinct way of filmmaking. He usually has a very prominently black cast, which is amazing representation is very important. I was amazed to find out this is based off a true story and a lot of the events actually happened, then again its the kkk. Not really that shocking they're kind of the worst.
I thought the pacing of the story was great and the characters were very well rounded. However the problem I have if the ending. I don't know how to describe it but it felt emotionally manipulative. I get spike was bringing attention to the black lives matter movement and tieing events that happened 50 years ago to present day but showing the protest and a woman dying at the blm protest (being killed by the kkk in Charlottesvile) felt emotionally manipulative. I understand the film ended on a happy note of infiltrating the kkk and preventing hate crimes and terrorist attacks from their end, so they probably wanted to say this shit is still happening but the way its presented felt emotionally manipulative. Idk its hard to explain.
As a whole, Spike Lee is very hit or miss but this is definitely one of his better productions. I thought it was an amazing film and very on brand for him.
