Doctor Sleep

Idk why I slept on this film for so long (spoilers for ending) I remember this film coming out in 2019 but heard mixed reviews. Watched it today and it’s pretty great as far as legacy sequels go. The young actress that played Abra was very talented for such a young age and can see her having a fruitful career. I loved how this sequel built on the lore of the shining and word building within the Steven king universe. The stakes were great, the pacing was perfect, the characters were great. It has the perfect amount of fan service and included perfect match for match shots that were in the original film from 1980, the iconic and stylistic cinematography is a part of why it’s still such a cult classic today. The part I dislike is how it was kind of left open ended (spoilers here) with the ghost of Danny speaking to Abra at the end with “do you believe that there’s more like her” and Hollywood being Hollywood has the opportunity to make a needless and unnecessary film and turn the duology into a soulless franchise, a trap many beloved classic horrors unfortunately fall into. Overall, I thought it was a great film and a very impressive homage to the beloved Kubrick classic.
