Wildwood
Wildwood completely made me feel a way I hadn't anticipated at all.
Sitting there watching it, you're not just absorbing the story; you're being pulled to be a kid again, to what it felt like in childhood.
You're back in that exact spot, on the living room carpet, fingers going through the carpet fibres in a completely mindless way, glued to the screen watching things. You remember the sheer physicality of it all, the warmth of the whole family in the room, the sound of all of us breathing and reacting together and that absolute sense of safety where nothing that was going on outside of that four-walled room mattered in the slightest.
You spend so long growing up that you completely lose the memory of what it was like to actually see magic on a screen for the first time. Wildwood didn't just feel like a film; it felt like finding a fragment of my childhood that I thought was long gone. It reminded me of who I was as a kid.
Laika Studios didn't disappoint with this movie; it really was a great film that competes with the top animated movies of all time, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
