Two against the world, baby. Two against the world.” Oh my god, this is everything I hoped it would be! Camp, insane gore (love the popping pustules), zombies, very hot people, quotable dialogue, and action that makes no sense but sure looks cool. Rose McGowan makes Cherry something special beyond just being a tough femme fatale. She has so much heart! Freddy Rodriguez as Wray is a badass leading man. (I’d only seen him in Ugly Betty). And d*nm their chemistry is good. My bi panic meter was screaming. Plus there’s cameo after cameo going on. I felt like I was just pointing at the screen there for a bit shouting names. Bruce Willis 👈👉Fergie, 👈Josh Brolin,👈👉 Marley Shelton. The action is bordering ridiculous but that’s the point. It’s grindhouse and over the top, and that’s why I love it. My favoring action shot has to be Cherry leaping over the wall shooting up zombies like the bada*s she is. While the side characters are all a blast, Mary Shelton’s Doctor Dakota is my favorite. She’s such a strong character despite the fact she can’t even use her arms for most of the runtime. Protecting her kid, kicking ass, and fighting off her puss filled nasty ex. (God Josh Brolin’s Dr. Block is so petty and cruel. He really acts his a*s off here. The needles scene is just plain heartbreaking.) Plus she’s canon bisexual, cheating on her nasty hubby with Fergie’s character. Let’s go girls ✂️ Which is slightly used as a joke. But I’ll take bi characters where I can, especially in the 2000s. I totally ship her and Cherry. The gore is wacky and so over the top. The blood is ketchup red and flying everywhere, the zombies are spitting up goo while looking utterly disgusting. It’s just so much fun. And god is the soundtrack f-ing baller! So catchy. The dialogue and situations can be so damn hilarious. The line: “Looks like a no brainer”, cut to a brainless Fergie head. Is one of my favorites. Another favorite is *-“My leg is stuck in the door! -It’s wood 🪵 It’s splintering!!”* Oh my god I was laughing my butt of during this, while also recoiling from the grody guts. Can’t believe this is my first Robert Rodriguez film as an adult ( I was a big Shark Boy and Lava Girl kid.) I just had such a good time with this! Definitely one to rewatch soon, maybe on the big screen if I can. Ps. Can’t believe Dakota’s kid, (Rebel Rodriguez) survived! And Cherry had Wray’s baby, awwww. He never misses you know.
