well, no wonder eleanor shellstrop got sent to the good place! anyway cher mothering christina aguilera warms my heart. i love women and queer people and black-haired diva kristen bell

wasn’t a good idea to rewatch this on the first day of my period but fucking hell man. i love this movie so much. every part and every detail of it. roz being a mother’s first time on earth, mimicking, learning and adapting to every animal’s behaviours just to cater to their needs if they so need her. her voice gentling around brightbill and fink and the other animals when they need that gentle voice. fink’s disappointment when roz didn’t tell him she loves him too. roz petting the animals. and then roz becoming one with the animals. FUCKKKKKKKKKK this is so detrimental and so nurturing to my heart at the same time. lupita nyong’o you will always be famous. your voice acting here GOTTTTTTTTT ME. the animation is a given it’s so fucking beautiful and bright and each shot looks like a painting. the ones of roz and brightbill, roz’s flashlight eyes, and beaten down roz with the other animals always get me everytime. the scenery the colours oh my god. and the MUSIC. the sound design. god everything is just so perfect. such a simple to understand story with SO much depth and heart.

okay sure maybe i dipped out of my filmbro phase in 2023-2024 to focus on my last school to GET to film school, but WHAT DO YOU MEAN???? THAT as a VETERAN LAST NIGHT IN SOHO FAN (WHO WROTE FANFICS OF IT IN 2021) AND ALSO SOMEONE WHO HAD A CHILDHOOD CRUSH ON ANNE HATHAWAY… EILEEN (2023) SOMEHOW WENT OVER MY RADAR FOR THIS LONG???? and i only watched it for the first time IN THE BIG 2026??? THREE FULL YEARS AFTER IT DROPPED????? the universe is so homophobic for this. anyway i love toxic sapphics, and maybe i’m easy to please but this really gripped me in a way i haven’t been in a longggggg long time. i love women. i love angst. GIVE ME ALLLL THE TENSION AND ANGST AND GIVE ME MOREEEEEE. yeah i loved this a lot :)

okay deep breaths because i have so much to say here we go as a soon to be 23 year old girl WHO… - has diagnosed contamination ocd - has to spray EVERYTHING with disinfectant spray otherwise she’ll spiral - “cleans” everything she owns at the sink to the point of water damage and needing replacements - wastes rolls and rolls of paper towels everyday - is constantly broke because she’s a painfully sentimental HOARDER who impulsively spends on everything she likes at first glance and has cash to spare - relies on several different medication everyday to function through her horrible immune system and even more horrible mental health - has parents who say her interests are old fashioned - loves the colour pink, rock and classical music - acted like an adult when she was a lonely neglected child - and now acts like a naive child who never grew up as an adult to compensate for her lost CHILDHOOD… words can never ever EVER do enough justice to explain how deeply this movie fucking carved right into me. the humour wasn’t cry-laugh hilarious but it was PERFECT for my pathetic naive-wannabe heart. that shining joke. everything was so perfect from the colours to the wardrobe to the story, the music, the locations, the rich and vibrant 2000s flick cinematography. everything just spoke to me so deeply both on the surface and way beneath. and it didn’t even have to be extravagant. it just had to be real. and UNCANNILY close with many many many aspects of my life… and not to mention this was RELEASED IN 2003 MY BIRTH YEAR???? AHAHAHA yeah fuck off, this movie legitimately prophesied my existence. i think idk but yeah very scary how word for word everything is. “the rides don’t start until the season starts. you’re a week early.” story of my life. i throw this around a lot with all pieces of media i resonate with or just really really love, but i think uptown girls was genuinely. genuinely. made for me. no it MADE me. I DROPPED OUT OF THE WOMB THE SAME YEAR IT DID. HELLO???? i need a while to digest this tbh. i feel like i’m dreaming am i even making sense? i didn’t take my meds yet and now i’m just rambling because i need to get every single thought i have about this out so i don’t forget. i cried while watching this but i didn’t really SOB until a few minutes after it ended when everything really sunk in for me. the message and bittersweet tragedy of it all. and especially the loss of brittany murphy. rest well, darling.
