Second part was just a hollow ripoff of part 1, which left me really disappointed. I believe part 1 is great in every sense of the word, but part 2 is a joke compared to its predecessor. It introduced detestable characters, idiotized Yagami, and speedran through the entire arc. The pacing really bothered me: part of what made Death Note so good was the constant outsmarting of the characters, but consequently, because of the accelerated pacing in this part, there was little to nothing of that. Light became passive and didn’t try once to figure out Near’s identity; he committed an unnatural and nonsensical amount of mistakes, basically telling Near “yeah, I’m Kira” with a red circle around his head every time he did something. Near basically possesses psychic powers, clairvoyance, and low-tier omniscience. The absolutely astonishing confidence in the conclusions he comes up with is completely irrational, and many times they don’t even bother giving a reasonable explanation as to how he knows some of these things. So it’s one side beating the shit out of the other side, and the other side going completely braincells-bankrupt in a matter of two chapters, smh. Regardless, the ending was okay, I guess. The third fake Death Note was a predictable ass-pull, and Mikami’s mistake is absolutely atrocious and very out of character if you ask me. There’s no way actually no way, anybody with any sort of grey matter in his head would’ve known that breaking his meticulous schedule to go to the bank twice in a row after killing in very public places so that you’d purposefully attract attention is not a good idea. In conclusion after this part 2 rant: L should’ve won, but since he lost, Kira shouldn’t have lost to that imbecile Near.

Visuals are insane holy shit. That alone + the mandatory +1 star for taking place outside of earth bumps it to a 4. I’m such a sucker for space movies

Nostalgia most definitely carries the fuck out of this show, but I still enjoyed it
