Catholic Guilt: The Movie. Really did not like this. Preachy, derivative & not scary. We’ve seen this done 101 times before. This is just a patchwork of far better movies. Really weird messaging behind this too, she feels guilty because she didn’t pray for her mother? Riiiiiight. And the demon causes miscarriages just after she finds out she’s pregnant. That’s suuuuuper convenient plotting, like surely there’s a better way to land that plot device, if you even need to at all. I dunno dude, that much Catholicism in a story about mothers murdering their kids & a demon that causes miscarriages & a newly expectant mother “causing” her own mothers death by not praying…that doesn’t sit right with me.

Bernard Herrmann‘s score is beautiful, haunting & somber. And Michael Chapman’s cinematography, capturing the rain soaked streets of New York illuminated by neon signs everywhere, making every frame a work of art.

The cuntiest coven. The Craft, if Regina George was the supreme. Lot of fun with this. Snarly performances by the main cast. Interesting little sting at the end too, curious if that pays off down the road.

Another astounding piece of work by David Lowery. Loved this in the biggest way. A deeply rich “ghost” story, about the ghosts cast aside in a pursuit of greatness; the friendships that are laid waste & the people torn asunder. Can we ever move past these ghosts or are we forever to be haunted by them?
