Mysterious Skin

this is a perfect movie no joke. i spent thirty minutes arguing with my sister because i roped her into watching it with me and she couldn’t see the vision as she’s uncomfortable with being uncomfortable and really paying attention to the subject matter and the story i can’t describe how this story interconnects sexuality, trauma (how it manifests differently in victims), and identity so eloquently, i think this could’ve so easily been mishandled but araki rises well above the occasion. each character fits perfectly in pushing the story and some scenes are stomach gnawing, but the filmmaker uses every minute to his advantage to form the story especially while dealing with such sensitive subject matter. every detail is a call back and i’m stunned how phenomenal this is omg
