Hamnet
- Jessie Buckley Oscar
- every single performance is great, and most are stellar. every moment matters; each breath is loaded. without Buckley, Mescal (certainly in the later acts), Watson, and (Jacobi) Jupe's quality in particular I think it would feel excruciatingly slow
- so mega and so soft all at once. adore how it felt to watch and be within
- weeped for at least 60% of the runtime. don't think i've seen a stat like it since The Fault in Our Stars aged 11
- the whole way through this bit from Mina Loy's Human Cylinders kept ringing round my head: 'Whose longing / is to slink back to antediluvian burrow [...] to quiver among the stars'.
- I LOVE HAMLET! I really did like Hamnet. but perhaps mostly for reminding me how much I love Hamlet
(...and art, and life, and all the rest of it, but Hamlet just is all, isn't it.)
