Lady Bird
can see why this is considered a coming of age film, it’s not about big events, it’s about her perspective changing, going from rejecting where she’s from to eventually understanding and accepting it. That aspect is there, and I get why people connect with it.
With that being said, coming of age films usually aren’t really for me, not that I’d judge a film based on that or let it affect my rating, otherwise I wouldn’t have given this a shot, but I rarely enjoy them, maybe I just haven’t seen enough.
Saoirse Ronan was good, but the accent slips were noticeable throughout, I won’t let that affect my rating and I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt like I would with someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger, especially considering how young she was when shooting this, but it was definitely hard to ignore . I’ve also seen better from Timothée Chalamet.
I can see why people relate to this, a lot of her struggles and emotions feel relatable. The whole idea of dropping the “shtick” and moving on is portrayed well, and that’s what I took from the film.
personally tho, I don’t see myself coming back to this, not that “rewatchability” is how I rate films, but it genuinely feels like a one and done type of film for me. Kind of glad I got it out of the way regardless, it’s one of those films that’s always lingering in recommendations.
(The long review might be to justify my rating on this, as i’m sure i’m going to get slated for such rating on this sorta film)
Not that opinions matter in my reviews hence the brutal honesty in this.
