Midnight Mass
Oh my god?? And I cannot stress that enough. So heavy but to be expected. Easily Mike Flanagan’s best work. I would say that I’m mad that I did not watch it sooner but what a treat to watch it now. Never has the messages in this show been so relevant. Religious psychosis and the spread of evil under the guise of it being something “godly”. Super interesting to see vampirism tied to alcoholism and religion. The last 20 minutes of episode 6 was some of the most beautiful and surreal cinematography I’ve ever seen between the organ and the hymn, the church ambience, and the reveal of the angel. That moment where the sheriff tries to run out of the church and is met with the angel. Chills. Erin distracting the angel while destroying it was straight out of Nosferatu, especially the way she pulled his head back to her body. Also the box with the angel in it being carried overseas. I would have loved to have seen Father Paul and Mildred’s relationship explored more. Also, Father was so fine, it made for a great viewing experience.
