If this had been a completely original story created by Nolan, it would’ve been one of the greatest movies of all time. But the original story has existed for hundreds and hundreds of years, and this is an adaptation. As expected, the film was very grounded, and the story was told nonlinearly.I was expecting more of a drama than an action film from this adaptation, but it still does a really good job. I loved Nolan’s realistic take and vision, and oh crap, the destruction of Troy was incredible. I could feel all the grief, the pain, and the tragic cost of victory. Also, the scene where Odysseus has his first interaction with Penelope in a long time, while she doesn’t know who he really is, felt so intimate, almost like a confession under a different name. That one scene alone makes me want to rate the movie 5/5. But I didn’t like how Calypso was used. She felt more like Odysseus psychiatrist, constantly asking him, “What do you remember?”, “What happened next?”, and “Where did that lead?” to me she felt like a plot device to tell the audience Odysseus backstory. And the thing is, I didn’t care who played which role, what the actors looked like, or whether the armor was historically accurate. If it was convincing enough. I wasn’t judging the movie based on historical accuracy. The acting was great. There’s really nothing to complain about there.
