Barry Lyndon
Psychotically masterful. 4.75 simply because the only emotion I felt the entire time was awe. However, it was fascinating how the novelty of the visual beauty basically carried the first half because with that, Kubrick got me to watch a basic story about an upper class kid who has to leave his home, joins the army, and subsequently falls his way upwards to wealth and prestige. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. Lastly, tarantino eat your fucking heart out. This is how you do a period piece with foreign languages and old English. My only other issue is with the narration as it, at some times, reveals the the next event before it happens. All in all, a beyond impressive film with perfect everything that made it feel like I was watching the stuff actually happen instead of watching actors.
