Donnie Darko

The schizophrenia is just a metaphor for going crazy because you're living in middle of nowhere suburban Virginia. The funniest part about watching movies set before 2001 is seeing how much America has changed economically and culturally due to 2001, 2008, 2012, and 2016. Not to sound like a smart ass but I watched the director's version that had all the explanations so I understood this movie (but I still watched all the movie explained videos to gain reassurance). Very well crafted movie that expertly intertwines many themes of sci-fi, mental health, culture, and religion while also expertly using coming-of-age high school movie as a backdrop. Wish I had a hot english teacher that I had weird sexual tension with because I was the only one who understood her. Also wow Maggie Gyllenhall and Jenna Malone were hot in this. No wonder I also had a crush on Jenna in Hunger Games but wtf happened to Maggie after this in like dark knight and dceu? Bro pulled while being weird, off-putting, autistic, paranoid schizophrenic and more so what am I doing wrong? Lastly got some Evangelion vibes in the sense that a whiny bitch high schooler who hates himself and the rest of the world has to save the world.
