The kind of film that will leave a pit in your stomach of extraordinary size. An excruciating but very necessary watch.

This is what I would consider the first great Scorsese film, Ellen Burstyn can act like god damn crazy and she certainly deserved best actress for this. I’m not entirely sure on my thoughts on some parts of the film, and, as I’ve found, Scorsese flicks are incredibly hard to rate for whatever reason. But there’s so much good here and such likable (and unlikable) characters that it deserves to be seen by WAY more.

Unfortunately a lot of great things that could’ve boosted this rating (which is arbitrary on its own) were sort of overshadowed by a story and cast of characters that were sort of uninteresting to me from the get go. Not a lot to say.
