RIPLEY
I really wanted to love this, but I only like it. It must be hard remaking something that the same source material has made so many great classics. I guess this could be feel better if you haven’t watched the 1999 ‘the talented Mr Ripley’ version of this story. But since I have watched it this seemed somewhat lacklustre. Despite me calling it lacklustre I actually loved the black and white storytelling, I think the lack of chemistry, drama, Dickies entitlement, the gayness, the ‘oh no, he’s going to get caught’ feeling, and pacing is what makes it feel somewhat dull. Also since it was eight episodes long instead of two hours I was expecting a lot more new content. Spoiler, there really wasn’t, everything was just completely drawn out. I love Dakota Fanning and Andrew Scott though. And the series is still good, I’m still giving it 3 stars, however I just don’t think it measures up.
