DISCLAIMER MY SCALE IS UNCONVENTIONAL but that doesnt mean i hate movies, i just have a very strange scale (and I also watched a lot of movies with my family that I was clearly not the target audience of) 0.5 = F 1.0 = D 1.5 = C 2.0 = B 2.5 = A 3.0 = A+ (and so on with the A++ etc) Yes it's kinda pretentious but there are two main reasons I rate like this 1. LESS ROOM FOR WHAT I HATE: Not expending extra energy on things that aren't worth it. If the movie sucked, why should I pick between 6 different ratings to express that? Toss it at the bottom and forget it. 2. MORE ROOM FOR WHAT I LOVE: Keeping my highest ratings sacred. A big way I find films is by looking at profiles, and I treat my ratings as recommendations accordingly. By using the top half of the scale sparingly, I can easily differentiate what was great vs what was life-changing. This is not an objectively better or worse way to rate than having a lenient scale. They're both completely fine ways to use the site imo
