Bugonia
They’re not only killing the bees, they’re putting chemicals in the water and turning the freaking frogs gay!
I enjoyed this movie so much more than I thought I would! Wow!
I am not a fan of Yorgos Lanthimos, but for some reason I keep giving his movies a shot. Lobster is decent, Dogtooth and Poor Things, I did not like at all. Bugonia, on the other hand, was super enjoyable to watch. Straight up I think it’s finally because he made a movie that isn’t inherently focused on constant sexual overtones.
Jessie Plemons is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, he has a really good range, but dependable in the way he can unsettle the viewer. Emma Stone is also very strong, it’s impressive how she commands the screen in the third act. Also shocked to see Stavros on screen? Didn’t know he acted, thought he was just a comedian, lol.
Overall, classic Lanthimos with the score inspiration, fits his movie well. I liked the cinematography a lot, great still shots, not a lot of movement in the camera allows for each subtlety of the actors to really peek through, loved that. The absurdist and alien conspiracy is interesting as a theme, I wonder what the director is really trying to say here, or who produced this movie… need to look into this.
Is this reverse psychology? Are the reptilian overlords trying to convince us they’re not actually controlling the major conglomerates like Amazon and Pfizer? I don’t know, I enjoyed the film.
