“In the casino, the cardinal rule is to keep them playing and keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose. In the end, we get it all.”
Every time I watch a mafia movie and there’s Joe Pesci in it, I know I’m watching a masterpiece.
His performance as Nicky is probably his peak, he portrayed one of the best antagonist in cinema.
I loved how Nicky and Ace are literally the opposite of each others but they’re still best friends. Ace who handles problems by talking, and Nicky who uses his hand for it. I think what made the character of Nicky scary is that no one can predict his actions, we can see that in the beginning when he literally stabbed someone with a pen without asking any questions that even Ace was surprised, or how Ace was calculating his chance of surviving the meeting with Nicky in the desert.
The desert scene is my favourite part of the movie, the way it’s filmed is absolute cinema. The tension that the director was able to set is incredible, I mean I wasn’t also sure if he would kill him or not, but seeing Nicky not letting Ace say a single word and just giving his threats shows how unstable Nicky is in this movie.
I can talk more about this 3 hours masterpiece but I’m just lazy and I have exams 🫤.
