Fitzcarraldo
the jungles overwhelming green feels indifferent and endless. against fitzcarraldos white linen suit, it reflects a man of sophistication in a place that has no interest in it. the pale ship moving through the jungle is the films main visual contrast though. it shows the absurdity of imposing refinement onto wilderness. colour in the film is the gap between his dream and reality. and his answer to that gap is to ignore it entirely. enduring hardship is just the world testing whether you really want it. most don’t. he did. fitzcarraldo moved a mountain to get what he wanted.
